I think once a network is permissionless, that basically anyone can participate in any part of it, what really matters is the number of people that actually care enough to participate across all parts. This has little to do with number of nodes or stake or whatever.

Isn’t credible neutrality of records / enforcement the crucial value prop of crypto? (And this is almost entirely determined by effectiveness of decentralization)

if its permissionless for anyone to keep a copy of a record, then credible neutrality is enforced. What you need is people who actually give enough f's to do it.

This seems akin to saying that just because I have a past record of who all my twitter followers were, that it doesnt matter if the public record of it is altered for everyone else going forward If a blockchain network's nodes create a new block where my smart contract is deleted, then my contract is *not* enforced
