fully agree with this take. when you try to compete on interesting content you're competing with X/instagram/tiktok/youtube/reddit. this will force you to play the game of engagement maximising algos which is upstream of everything we've come to hate about online social today lots more room for innovation in connecting people play a different game

when you get to know the people you engage with online, even their more menial "content" means more to you imo just because a network doesn't optimize for engagement doesn't mean it will be devoid of engaging, high quality content
