Its possible we should reframe The Burn as The Great Public Goods Distribution — the mechanics are the same, but gut reaction from onlookers probably isnt

I’m not sure. I think the power of the meme comes from its framing as a drastic measure. Every concession to make it more palatable to onlookers will make it less powerful as a forcing function imo. A difficult problem.

i wonder tho. it can have a functional mechanical definition internally that creates fear. but then a softer branding that the outside world can cheer on?

My gut is that if we can somehow emphasize the “forcing function” angle publicly (like that Nouns can always make a prop to donate to public goods to avoid a burn, etc) then onlookers might grok it better. Probably though, the “rich ppl would rather burn $ than give to charity” will be hard to overcome still.
