took a quick glance at volpe’s batted ball data to see if there’s any major differences between last year and this year, where he’s using a custom torpedo bat. 

it’s a small sample size, but he’s hitting the ball more on the barrel, with more exit velocity, and more hard hit %. 

the interesting part: his current batting average is in line with last year though his batting average on balls in play suggests he’s very unlucky, so there may be a surge in production as his “luck” evens out.

yeah, it’s like a tiny sample size but still. he’s also improved his launch angle from ~8 degrees to ~15 degrees and a 4 mph avg ev bump. 

if you’re playing fantasy, he’s a nice little sleeper pick. if he can maintain this launch angle and barrel rate improvement, he’s probably got a hot streak coming as his babip improves towards his career average
