Nutritional distinction I saw recently: There’s a difference between stimulation and energy. Stimulation is a short burst that burns fast. Sugar, caffeine, and even your favorite song will stimulate. It is not sustainable and can have bad effects if it’s your sole source of fuel. Energy, on the other hand, is a calm activeness. It is at the mitochondrial level, and supported by balanced and habitual nutrition and fitness choices. By letting go of using stimulation as an substitute for energy, you can start the humble but rewarding path of finding true energy.

Well said, Tim But then I struggle sometimes with finding balance. It’s easy to fall back into the habit of reaching for a sugary snack or a caffeine boost when I’m feeling tired. How do you think we can effectively shift our mindset and create consistent habits that promote true energy, rather than relying on those quick stimulations? Serious question

Very much agree. The one that works for me is fasting to get that calm long energy. Might not work for everyone, but for me it's fantastic way to start the day.

I totally agree with this distinction between stimulation and energy. It’s easy to fall into the trap of relying on quick bursts of stimulation like caffeine or sugar to get through the day, but that’s not sustainable in the long run. but again how do you ensure that you’re cultivating energy rather than just relying on stimulation?

this is a great (and easy) way to think about this tim. people tend to think the little burst means their achieving some results, but I always had the opposite…. I try to maintain a calm balance both mentally and physically and I’ve found this to work for me

By stimulation, do you mean quick dopamine spike ? If that’s it, it’s truly not sustainable, but can we truly feel motivated every single day ? Can we feel energized every single day ? On days where we aren’t so energized, is seeking stimulation a totally bad thing ? I would love answers to this @tldr , it would help me get more consistent at the habits I’m looking to build

Great point! This reminds me of the motivation vs discipline debate. Motivation is like stimulation a spark that fades, while discipline is like energy a consistent burn that drives progress.
