Why do you mint free/low-cost NFTs? 

Is it a 'why not' thing? just enjoy collecting? or something else?

I suspect generally it’s a low-grade FOMO.  An insurance against the pain your future self may experience by not being a part of the next Opepen or not having evidence that you were one of the true OGs in Farcaster. 

The other reason for me is to support people who are putting themselves out there as Creators

100%. And even the high value NFTs become high value as a proxy of cool. Which is why so many people held them through massive loss of value

that's a really interesting framing of it, as not just financial FOMO, but social FOMO (why not collect this artifact showing that I was here, I am cool, etc just in case it becomes recognizable later on)
