if they matter to you, and if you think the will understand and take the criticism, consider telling them that you dont want to lose them as friends but with all the complaining and negativity, you just cant be around them. A close friend told me this when I was going through a rough patch and I unfortunately felt a little too comfy venting to them. I heard them as refrained from bringing negativity into our time together. But I have to say I've cut out plenty of people who just werent gonna change for me and I didnt want to ask them to.
