First? Probably DC Talk, before the Jesus Freak album. Definitely had cringier Christian music exclusively for years in my collection before becoming a heathen.

Later DC talk devolved into what you describe. Earlier stuff was inspired by classic hip hop, then alternative rock. It was super catchy.

My wife (also a heathen convert) tells me DC Talk is basically Christian K-pop. I’m tempted to find a video but I’m not sure I’ll be able to look away
