If you're looking for a good technical overview (assuming you are given the rust books!), unfortunately Mastering Ethereum is a bit of a let down :-( There isn't a great alternative that I'm aware of: really good opportunity for someone to write it! As an alternative, I'd probably watch Vitalik's "Ethereum in 30 minute" talks from devcon and google the stuff that you don't understand to dive deeper :-)
