For pixel art, it's good old Aseprite. For vector-based things, Inkscape. I do some compositing in an old version of Photoshop. The polys-art toucan above was made in Figma, which I didn't much care for. I keep away from subscriptions or Software as Service and stick to open source or lightweight software.

I don't like the 'taste' of pixel art outputs but I did use Ebsynth to make a few funny short pixelarty animations a few years ago. VERY time consuming!

Oh, on art school - it wasn't a very good decision really, I think I was just quite bored. I got better at not getting bored later on when I went into science.

It's a classic, but it's about gaining income from the sorts of things that I find interesting to explore. I've found that the NFT space has been extraordinarily accomodating on this, and the usual rules of client work and marketability are very much relaxed around here. One of these days I'll figure out a good format for one of my gestating comics projects and bust that challenge on the head.

what has been your biggest challenge as an artist?

Sure! It's subtle, but it's in there - mostly in attraction to subject matter but also in a certain bloody-mindedness about sticking to certain things I respect. Like, for instance, I don't believe in monsters. So any large, threatening presence in a scene will have some thought put towards its behavioural ecology. I also have very different ideas about what is disgusting, dirty or obscene from most people.

Excellent question! To me, its the impermeability of those blocks and how all the onchain art contained therin will be perpetuated so long as the blockchain is in use. There is already archeology of early onchain art and thoughtful curation by people like Tokenfox that will be the bedrock of a new academic field. Originally, I was lured in by the promise of being able to sell dog pictures for over the market price. Now I am excited about how all the things we make will be pieced together and analysed by people 300 years from now. 

(And that certainly includes permutations of things like Olive's Grove! That probably deserves its own thread...)

What's interesting about art + Blockchain and NFTs to you? What appealed to you originally and has that changed over the years?

Bonus: What are you excited about now that you weren't originally?

I have a dayjob, which isn't very quirky of me. In the evenings I go to figure drawing, screen printing and currently have a fun roleplay night for a homebrew Delicious In Dungeon game I'm building.
