I'm not sure how to express this, but does your background as an evolutionary biologist influence your art in any way?

Sure! It's subtle, but it's in there - mostly in attraction to subject matter but also in a certain bloody-mindedness about sticking to certain things I respect. Like, for instance, I don't believe in monsters. So any large, threatening presence in a scene will have some thought put towards its behavioural ecology. I also have very different ideas about what is disgusting, dirty or obscene from most people.
