Crypto getting roasted. I guess my question still stands. From a leftist perspective, is there much to celebrate aside from institutions and billionaires buying our bags? https://jacobin.com/2024/11/crypto-political-influence-trump-regulations/ https://warpcast.com/silentjohn/0xa80cb2b5

None of this is actually new, but it shouldn’t be understated how much peer-to-peer lending like Aave and Notional can help the unbanked. It shouldn’t be ignored that in most countries sending USDC, DAI etc is faster, cheaper, and less restrictive than any remittance service like WesternUnion. Other notable mentions: - Zcash and MimbleWimble Litecoin help activists, journalists, and sex workers evade unlawful financial cencorship and surveillance. Monero appears to be heavily tracked if Chainalysis is to be believed - PoolTogether continues to encourage people to save rather than speculate. This benefits the unbanked who could easily be ushered towards poor financial decisions that could ruin them - Union finance allows for social lending where stakers vouch for others to get them access to community credit. I haven’t seen the numbers on how much this is used but this is very left-coded and very positive sum - SPOT/USDaf may have broken the need to rely on USD (war/oil money) for secure stablecoins

My point is, if we can agree that the goal of leftists in this space is to: ↳ protect the unbanked, underbanked, and even banked from the exploitative financial system: we’re making progress ↳ remove US hegemonic power by undermining the dominance of the US dollar: we’re making progress, but some like USDC are actually reinforcing American dominance ↳ move away from capitalism and asset speculation to collective ownership (governance tokens), trade of useful goods (digital or physical), and savings protocols: we’re not making very much progress and are actively moving against this
