My grandpa has Alzheimerās and lives full time with my parents. Luckily heās very easy to take care of, docile, sweet. Just his memory is not as sharp. I take care of him sometimes when my parents canāt. Today I had a very lucid conversation with him. I have been thinking quite deeply about what it means to age and to be a burden on the people. I asked him if he prefers being at his house or with my parents. He says with my parents and me because we take care of him āŗļø then he called me a farty to break the tension of the serious convo š¤£ We talked about the places heās travelled to, where he wants to go still. Itās very pleasant because growing up he was a mega stoic Asian grandfather. I donāt think Iāve ever seen him smile or laugh until he got Alzheimerās and became more dependent on us. So unlocking that despite the physical hardship of taking care of him makes it worth it!
