Depends on how into the topic you are. At points, it feels like it should be an extended essay as it can get very dense on data and it isn't clear how much it adds.  

The first ~150 pages are super interesting as they follow the development of securities in Venice from the 1200s up to the early 1900s 

Also, I think its super useful to understand the initial use cases for exchanges, brokers, etc. Understanding the initial pain point they solved helps understand markets more generally. But this can be sourced for free online
