I encourage anyone interested to look at what “Threads is a part of the Fediverse” looks like in practice at this point

- duplicate identities (one person has a Mastadon handle and Threads handle)
- can’t see likes or replies 
- media and 1st party data types like polls aren’t supported 
- no control over deleting posts 
- 15 min sync

I’m sure these things will get better in many ways but they also point to fundamental challenges of federation that will always exist in some form

for example: maybe sync will get faster between the two biggest players but small servers will be left out

I'd also guess the vast majority of Threads users have no idea that Threads is connected to the Fediverse, or even what the Fediverse is.

I'm a Threads user lmfao even went viral once.  I have tangential knowledge of the Fediverse.  Have a Mastodon account somewhere.  I had heard Threads was federating, but I'm really kind of meh about Threads even though I've had *some* success building a following there when I focused on it.  I *never* see Mastodon or the Fediverse mentioned there.
