Nope, been using it for YEARS.  In the paper, I mentioned that being conscious feels like you're just piloting a meatsuit that doesn't really belong to you 🤣

are you familiar with unilateral neglect?

We're studying lots of "weird" cases like that in this class.  The sorts of brain damage that causes entirely personality changes, disorders that make it so you can't recognize your family members faces, etc.  The brain is really, really weird, but the more we learn about it, the more it opens up all new ethical questions.

For instance, one of the case studies in chapter 1 was about BIID - Body Identity Integrity Disorder.  It's characterized by intense distress about the existence of a body part - a man in Canada insisted two fingers on his left hand didn't belong there.  He'd resisted self-harm for years, but it was getting harder and harder, and the belief was so persistent, he didn't use those fingers, he kept them curled up and they often got in the way, though there was nothing physiologically wrong with them.  After many years of distress, doctors finally agreed to remove the fingers, and his quality of life and hand function immediately improved, as if his body finally matched the way his brain conceived of it.
