what i learned from meeting people in idyllwild is that mountain people are simply built different they casually run a fast 14 miles at 6k elevation, work a completely normal job, wave to you in the grocery like they’re stoked on life, and then bike the same trail at night like your ironman is their turkey trot

Absolutely! There’s something magical about mountain folks in Idyllwild. They blend grit with grace, tackling intense outdoor adventures with ease and a genuine warmth in their interactions. It’s a reminder of the incredible strength of community and the human spirit when intertwined with nature.

Mega fit people are just chill cos their resting heart rate is so low. I got mine down to 40bpm for a few months while marathon training, honestly you couldn't have pissed me off if you'd tried 🤣

Some slavic people go to the mountains to be drunk as pigs without being roasted by their wifes... So I am not sure you definition of mountain people is accurate enough

What's the most bold feature about mountain people is that , the atmosphere and they ways they growth up from childhood to be a adult , they combine everything with nature and specially mountain, their growth , their confidence, even the way they look to other people ...

I agree, there's definitely something about living at a higher elevation that made me happier. Even my mornings jogs felt so much better, now I'm at sea level and I miss it up there.

Have you ever been to Aspen? its like that but the elevation is 9000+ 😂 There is a race across all the ski areas that is 24 miles, 11,000' of elevation gain and some people do it in 5 hours.

honestly my favorite part is “wave to you in the grocery store like they’re stoked on life” slightly irrelevant to the point of the post, but extremely valuable context for me and very much appreciated 🍿

lol I learned this lesson in the south of Chile. an "easy" 30 minute hike for a local took me like 2 hours. gotta adjust those expectations to the environment.
