who has more influence: devs or cultural leaders? imo the relationship b/w the two is bidirectional, but devs have a stronger, more transformative impact on society the best devs care to build something that meets consumer demand, which is not always mutually inclusive w/ "cool" we tend to forget that last part

imo, seeking influence through impact in a desired space is healthy. by my definition, influence is a slow bend, while impact is the difference from an original perspective. cultural leaders are better at bending the script over time, while developers can easily enable significant impacts (e.g. crypto or AI)

generally speaking, i believe cultural leaders have more influence on what people think/say/believe and devs have more influence on people's behaviors/actions

idk the answer but my 2c is itโ€™s easy to build in an echo void by just casting about the hot trend, a lot tougher to choose a long term goal(espc when itโ€™s unsexy) and stick it out *sometimes* those two groups overlap though!

As a dev: 100% cultural leaders have more influence, and I'm surprised this is even a question you are asking. It's almost never true that if you build it, they will come. All movements require cultural leaders, and tech movements are no different. Some are less centralized then others, but is is undoubtedly the ones who bridge the gap with regular humans that have a lasting impact. Some devs can do this, but those devs are also cultural leaders. It's almost a tautology by definition: cultural leaders create cultural impact. Whether or not they are a dev is irrelevant.

you need both, but I'm biased. Developers who understand a little bit of culture is way more powerful than cultural leaders who understands a little bit of development.

imo the most impactful people are a mix of both. ie: steve jobs, bill gates, walt disney. they understand culture & also push forward innovation

devs as long as they can show/communicate what it is theyโ€™re building to create a better world the cultural leaders often bring understanding to the impacts hard to pick one or the other, both needed

great question. imo cultural leaders have more influence given that we are in an attention economy. devs usually create things that revolutionize our day to day lives, but cultural leaders have the ability to tug at our heartstrings and get a movement going. 150 $farther

some (very few) devs have more influence than cultural leaders, but we're talking about altman, chesky, zuckerberg et al overall, cultural leaders win - for better or worse
