GitHub’s contributions graph incentivizes making many small commits, rather than making meaningful commits. Or do I have this wrong?

I’ve seen people flex their contributions. And I’m out here fucking writing code everyday, and I’m like why does my chart not look like that?! And now it makes sense lol

Here’s my secret: setup an Obsidian vault with GitHub backup, and it makes the small, numerous commits for you 🤫

you can easily game the chart by running a script to generate a bunch of backdated commits. it's not meaningful imo

I agree but quality over quantity, users > commits 😉

You should be making small commits for multiple reasons: - easier to code review - easier to test - easier to git bisect and find your bug - easier to merge when you’re programming with 100 other developers on your team.
