Or do I have this wrong?

you can easily game the chart by running a script to generate a bunch of backdated commits. it's not meaningful imo

I made myself feel great for a couple weeks, doing grammar corrections to my site. lol. 

I felt like a god.

Here’s my secret: setup an Obsidian vault with GitHub backup, and it makes the small, numerous commits for you 🤫

I’ve seen people flex their contributions. And I’m out here fucking writing code everyday, and I’m like why does my chart not look like that?! And now it makes sense lol
