Someone who knows something about publishing, why does it take so long for a book that’s presumably finished to need almost 10 months to be released? Genuine question. https://x.com/hubermanlab/status/1805350687620186306?s=46&t=35-PVao8ZGgO54RWjlFoZg

For publishing with a publishing house: there’s the edit cycles followed by review cycles, followed by press cycles et al. Printing, press tour, scheduling talks/events/full travel plan (book clubs, podcasts, audiences, media) review side: first copy/gallows are sent months earlier and getting earlier reviews to add to the book (you’ll see it at those quotes at the back of each book ) when it’s published. there’s also reviews for the booktok/bookstagram side then the actual printing cycle, international is more logistics to add on

Three reasons: 1) editing takes a while 2) marketing and selling it to publishers 3) to allow time for the presale process to offset the costs and to gauge marketing needs / costs. I wondered this too and asked an author.
