Im expecting approx 3 months because of the stage of decomposition the leaves are already in...much of it has already began turning to soil. To prepare the pile: Soaked it all in water, added old fruits/veggies/peels and a culture from my main compost bin. It's in a black plastic trashcan with a lid, so the heat should help speed up the process....Going to add some chicken manure when I can get some Do you mainly do a cold compost method? Thanks for that info! Yes we do cold composting at the /allotment but ngl I've been thinking a lot about hot composting like you're doing with a bin, which is why I'm interested in how long it might take. I might do a mix of hot/cold, where I put weeds into a hot compost as then I know the mf'ers can't survive.
