oh yes absolutely! 

all chains have to come to a consensus (on the order of transactions) and then "wait" for the node to execute and update the state

monad removes this "wait" by decoupling consensus from execution, so both consensus and execution get full block times to process

additionally, monad starts executing new transactions before earlier transactions are completed (the "optimistic" part)

the validators validate by matching the outputs of earlier transactions to the inputs of earlier transactions
