Based on the news of Pavel’s arrest today I took the time to visit his Telegram channel.

His writing history in the channel displays a clarity of thinking and commitment to transparency that is admirable.

His prev project vk dot com was my main social platform. It was a great product. He lost it for sticking to the same values - freedom of speech and users privacy.

Same for me growing up and then moved to telegram when it got out 

He lost it because KGB got to his home and set an ultimatum for him to either hand off the data from all of the countries vk was operating in or sell the company and someone else will have to hand off the data 

so he did the latter and started telegram as something that can’t be pressured by the governments, which was the case while he physically stayed in Emirates

if he tried to setup the company in pretty much any other place and especially Europe or US, it’d be already over many years ago
