Here is an issue where I actually feel like siding with the SV techbro overlords a bit.

The issue is that many of these statements are totally fine in the "rest of the world" .... once you remember that "rest of the world" is not "Anglosphere + Europe"

"don't tell kids to follow their dreams if their dreams are stupid" - would poll very well with non-WEIRD conservative parents pretty much anywhere

criticism of universities - the broader message of "universities should focus on learning, not politics" is similarly popular

The point of dreams isn't the dream but the energy it generates. Follow your dreams means fucking follow them. The level of discipline it takes to achieve any of those dreams is significant. It's easier to steer a moving ship than a stationary one. If something moves you enough to call it a dream then fcking go for it.
