to all of my pro-democracy friends here: we need to realize that the majority of people, especially those in tech, currently prefer technocracy over democracy. they actively want autocrats to tell them what to do and how to live because they think it’s easier to get to their superficial goals that way. it’s unlikely you’re going to change their mind until it blows up in their face. stay strong; stay in control where you can; keep those technocrats as friends where possible. ride the rapids and stay alive - the time of democracy will come again. people just have to learn the hard way sometimes.

There is a not a single place in the world we’re Democracy exists, nor has it for about 15 years. America is in a plutocracy morphing into an Anarcho-Tyranny state. Yesterday was a fork in that road but we are still well within a plutocracy and that won’t change until Citizen’s United and the Patriot Act is abolished.

I think the makeup up of tech is a little more complicated that two buckets of beliefs, especially in crypto. For example, most bitcoin maxis are hard core libertarian that see technocracy as no better than leftist statism. Unfortunately, the American political process forces a choice between two flavors of statism. The beautiful thing about the US Constitution is that it limits government by breaking power up into three branches, and it concluded the Bill of Rights with the 10th amendment. In my many years of voting and hearing "this is the end of the republic" by each side, I remain encouraged by this strong constitutional foundation.

first of all if you need to issue sweeping "they" generalizations, you haven't spent enough days in introspection. that theory of mind is nonsense. second of all you're talking smack about what others build, instead of being a self-reliant patriot. third of all you live in a constitutional republic, not a pure democracy. instead of overreaching entitlement, focus on local reform. "keep those technocrats as friends" not with off-putting partisan hackery like this, brother.

I've been thinking about this for days... the effects will last all over the world as countries essentially get brought in under 1 of 3 authoritarians, either through military force or economic force. The only power we had was votes, and now, likely, we don't have that power anymore as the media either complies or gets shut down. I agree that they only way it'll change is after things get really, really bad, and then hopefully, those remaining can work together again.
