What are other people's impressions of the difference between the cultural vibe in farcaster vs bluesky vs mastodon vs lens? (I have my own answers but am very curious what other people's answers are)

Obviously take with grain of salt Nostr: Bitcoin maxis Farcaster: Eth maxis but not degen Lens: crypto maxis, yes degen Bluesky: TPOT, generally left leaning Mastodon: other Twitter refugees Threads: people who missed the boat on becoming instafamous - a influencer power debt jubilee

in your opinion, which is most likely to serve as the text-based social "public service" (mass market) over the next 3-5 years?

the question is which hub is the most performant when encumbered with as many of them. e.g. who indexes the web without google and "dead internet" filler?

are you saying that you think it's a technical / scaling question?

yes, also not unknown answer, question of "Big Tech" capital. saw this take (that I don't agree w/): https://twitter.com/evan_van_ness/status/1678475045062975498 ultimately, how to upfront curate the frontpage between necessary parties to have anything viable enough to scale. doesn't necessarily translate to IRL econ

Evan asserts that it's about having a really good alpha stage for ideas, & that might be true at application layer. it's very far from accurate for capex constraints in economy of atoms, & question of social media is how the content consumption is monetized by behavior change (mostly ads, but sometimes collabs).

If I'm understanding your argument, I think Threads is most likely to fulfill that goal by simply having access to the largest market with the most detailed user data and with users highly responsive to advertisers. They have likely already hit critical mass (until web3 replaces them πŸ˜‰ ) I'm not a Threads user btw.

it might be temporarily profitable because the echo is so loud. but even prior to 2020, ppl understood that platforms like insta & tiktok juice their numbers (iirc google was found out too). guess I'm feeling cognitive dissonance b/c I know it's worth it to Zuck to subsidize, & for users to larp as hard as possible.
