Increasingly, I don’t think web3 is the next iteration of the web that will replace web2, but rather a fork that will run in parallel. Not a strong opinion yet but something I can’t shake. Also not sure how I feel about it if true. Thoughts?

It depends on what you mean by web2? Most people would say web2 is access to internet and internet based services. If that’s what you’re referring to, yes web3 is a modified internet. Web3 can’t exist without internet. Web3 - A new internet era with emphasis on control (+ often times privacy).

I don't think most people would define web2 in that way. web2 is more about social ugc and co-creation, not the internet. The internet certainly pre-existed web2.

Yes internet was there before web2 but it was mostly read only. Web2 flourished because access and services that weren’t just read only popped off. Web3 is another layer of access and services being added to what we currently call web2.
