5: the one future empires we haven’t yet realized. History is cool but getting hung up on it as something I wish for seems like a waste of the present

5, Assyrian, maybe slightly morbid but those brothers were absolutely brutal people.

3. Indus valley: Why the Indus Valley civilisation came to an end remains a mystery, its 1400 well planned cities, dentistry, statue of the dancing girl of Mohenjodaro, its precise measuring techniques

5 Byzantine (eastern Roman) Empire. Lasted over 1000 years, superior to Roman empire everyone thinks of, built Hagia Sophia - church so amazing the conquerors who finally took Constantinople in 1453 pillaged the city but converted it to a mosque and it's still standing whole nearly 1500 years later. East meets west

1. There’s something that borders on mythology with the Romans that I find appealing.

5 Macedonian was a compelling military campaign, solid land connection between multiple continents, dissipated relatively quickly w/o bread & circus, led to Hellenistic period, etc.

3. Indus Valley for sure. It may have some interesting egalitarian and planned decentralization aspects to it. Everything is obscure about it, including scientific papers with few citations https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10814-020-09147-9 .

1, though I honestly need to branch out a bit. Also, I think the ancient Mesopotamian empires are interesting.
