the new zora update means that by default mints cost $0.29 instead of the previous $2.01 price point

Calling them "Free" is the biggest blunder imo

If you think it was a blunder, you never saw what it did for creator revenue.

As far as I know some made a shit load but most made not-a-lot. Am I mistaken?

Before creator rewards and the “free mint” meta, most creators struggled to ever make money from their art. After @zora pioneered the model, I’ve seen many artists make lots of ETH in creator rewards. Psychology is a hell of a drug.

I'm a big champion of artists making money but the free mint meta directly aims at their long term artistic careers in favor of short term financial reward, which is perfectly fine if that path was chosen conscientiously.

I just don’t think that’s true. @ilustradoraeth, @priyanka, @brettdrawsstuff, @sloppy, @ccarella.eth are just a few artists off the top of my head who have have seen the power of creator rewards without sacrificing in any way their artistic integrity or reputations.

Again, all in favor of creator rewards but against the "Free" mint meta. Free is what hurts, nothing else.

Using the original “free minting” on Zora I needed hundreds of mints to make the right amount of money on a piece. That worked fine for my first mint. Second and third, not so much. I need to try this new version to see what happens, until then, I withhold my opinion.

Of course I'm happier selling my nfts for money. It causes pride and satisfaction from my need as a creator. free nfts is a strange thing as it seemed to me at first, but rewards for mints is a nice thing and sometimes is even more profitable than inexpensive Open Edition on objkt. But usually the excitement goes away quickly when I make new mints they get worse and worse. Maybe with the new mint fee things will get better. In general Zora is an interesting way to sell nft, but I agree with Sunny that morally it is hard, as if I devalue my work. We'll see where it will lead next. It's better to try something new than not to try it . One thing I can say is that no one will ever mint their best work here. and I don't really know what's going to happen next? Is there a secondary market? In fact, I'm not doing any new free mints yet, because I don't feel like it yet
