Is it still a good idea for an early stage startup to build a podcast as a brand positioning lever? Considering the crowded market, the amount of effort it requires, and of course the flat yields in the early days?

I'd recommend doing a live podcast, either X Spaces or YouTube live. Then just publish the audio via RSS to eliminate any editing. It's a great way to generate content for you site/socials/newsletter. You just have to consider the opportunity cost of ~4hrs/week

It's depends... if you take Macroalf/The Macro Compass for example it worked out pretty well, but he had something to offer that no one did: macro learning material. So, at least, focus on the unique selling point of your podcast, but there could be other tradeoffs to make, resources are always limited.
