Yup! It's a great developer experience but will also lock you in. snippets.so is still using Next but the work it's going to take to refactor all of it to a more open stack is gonna suck.

I still think Next is so incredibly good!

I have but it's been a while. I don't expect next.js to be portable, it's specially designed to deliver an experience that only Vercel can provide without a billion bugs. 

There's always a time and a place for Vercel / Next.js, it's not all bad. That DX can be great for someone moving from front end to full stack. IMO it's good to keep learning and not let it be a crutch. It's one of the reasons I'm working on bhvr.dev, as a way to build apps that don't have vendor lock-in. You can deploy the client and server in so many different places and it can be just as easy as next.

dockerized nextjs was a simple change (Dockerfile + output: standalone in next.config) but i still have to test perf

i tried ditching nextjs off today. i know i will pay lots of money for traffic. but wanna pass this problem for the next generation to come

In my experience DX lags behind alternatives in many other areas

- Any sizable nextjs project becomes slow to hot reload
- Static generation can be a second class citizen
- Errors a lot of times are extremely unhelpful
- Updating to a new version can be a huge chore because of their feature churn

I find it more useful as an all-in-one cheap starter solution but more expensive to maintain than alternatives

I’m using nextJS in a few projects. Both personal and work and self hosting. While I don’t like the coupling with Vercel, having the front end and server in a single repo is pretty convenient. 

I’ll take a look at your link here, if there was something simpler, I’d love to check it out
