We need Zero Knowledge proofs for renting apartments and getting mortgages. It’s such an insanely invasive process. I’ve had people ask for six months of bank statements and tax returns in apartment applications. I should just be able to generate a probably true hash that says “yes I can afford it and I’ve never missed a rent payment in 20 years” without exposing so much personal information

very viable to do these kinds of proofs these days but the problem is how will you convince the verifier (banks, landlord etc.) to trust a cryptographic protocol

While I agree entirely with the premise—frankly zk should be abstracting away all private information sharing with those who could easily exploit it—Canada is planning to make it so paying rent affects (hopefully builds) your credit score, so in the future, it might be the case landlords will just check credit score. Again though, even that should be zk proofed.
