if you find store bought cream cheese underwhelming like I do, you can just add lemon rind + juice, olive oil, and dill. it takes on a much lighter texture, closer to whipped. in this case we used Riviera cream cheese but would work with anything

basically figured this out because we know the owner of a restaurant nearby who makes cream cheese in-house and he let slip that they use philly (!!) as the base. so we just started adding lemon/herbs to our own store-bought cream cheese and boom, much better. just gotta be careful with the amount of lemon juice or it can lose its consistency and get too runny.
