if you find store bought cream cheese underwhelming like I do, you can just add lemon rind + juice, olive oil, and dill. it takes on a much lighter texture, closer to whipped.

in this case we used Riviera cream cheese but would work with anything

basically figured this out because we know the owner of a restaurant nearby who makes cream cheese in-house and he let slip that they use philly (!!) as the base.

so we just started adding lemon/herbs to our own store-bought cream cheese and boom, much better. just gotta be careful with the amount of lemon juice or it can lose its consistency and get too runny.

very easy and effective! basically need to decide how light you want it and adjust lemon juice and olive oil accordingly
