i would consider this to be a thoughtful reply that leads to further engagement, but after replying it went below the fold and it felt kinda shitty because i'm not sure if OP will even be notified of my reply (whether or not that is true is besides the point)

this is my first time replying in a while because after the channel changes i have generally been deterred by the fact that i am not a member of the channel that OP casted in

perhaps it would make sense for replies from users that OP follows to always show above the fold - regardless of their channel membership status

I think it’s fair to view the replies of a cast to be a space shared between the channel and the cast author

Could make it configurable for those that really want to lock down their channel but I suspect that is a small minority of channel owners

Also it seems like this level of control is not currently possible anyway because if OP likes my reply I go above the fold?

What if the channel owner doesn’t want non-members appearing in their channel?

What about replies of people you follow to always go above the fold?

happened to me a few times lately where I was replying to a conversation in replies already happened and I thought that was the last message 

but turned out it was halfway through and was just hidden with that tiny (3) number under the last comment which is so easy to miss and I was expecting to see the full convo as I opened the post details
