The more I think about it, the more I realize that a list of emails and a reliable outgoing mail service is the closest you can get to owning your audience and guaranteeing distribution today Downsides: much harder to build a mailing list, there’s no unsending mails, you miss out on the many-to-many interactions that make public social feeds fun

It’s a spectrum, and you have to be multichannel. Email for highly reliable, low function re-engagement, which links to higher function channels

100% this is part of a real grounded strategy. Relying on other outbound vectors is putting all your eggs in someone else's basket. Of course it's useful and important to utilize those vectors, but your own website, your own email list, are things that you have power over (to a much higher degree) & can structure in a way that takes the curious from their initial touch point in that ecosystem through to become a supportive long term community member/user/etc
