Btw is someone gonna tell the AI companies that version numbers don’t measure anything? Like an improvement on Claude/GPT-3 can’t just go to GPT-3.5 what happened to 3.1, 3.2 etc? When you get to 3.9 the next bump doesn’t have to be 4, they know that right?

I think it’s a great marketing move though, they kind of set “feature acceleration” with each version. Like 3 -> 3.5: selling as something better 3.5->4: selling as something significantly better. Great move but definitely makes my semver brain module to cry.

That’s why I’m a big fan of date versioning like 2024.3.1. So even in 5 years you exactly know when a version has been shipped.
