The final boss of capture-resistance is social influence and manipulation

We can craft all the robust mechanisms for collective decision-making, accountable delegation, and resource management we want, but one manipulative, hyper-magnetic bad actor can undermine it all

This is one reason influencers scare me

This is what I came up with two years ago, and I still think it holds:

"A DAO is a network of agents that manages common resource(s) in service of a shared purpose, where the power to execute actions is distributed among all agents in the network"

This breaks down into 4 tenets:

1. A DAO is a network of agents with common purpose and shared resources(s), aka its an organization

The power to execute actions that manage those shared resources is...

2. Distributed among all agents in the network (decentralization => bolstering resistance to internal capture), and

3. No agents outside the network (autonomy => resistance to external capture)

4. Information about the shared resources and critical operations is available to all agents in the network

this is why I added tenet #4 to my definition of a DAO

100 $daos influencers scare me too but mostly cause the stuff post is cringe 🤣

Ye I've always thought of coordination mechanisms as a way to diminish (not remove entirely ) the social influence of individuals I've seen at bad traditional orgs ...

It's scary but sadly probably for the best. Without the human element (and risk that comes with it) it'd  all be terribly dull 😊
