Good question. China isn't at the public forefront of large language model development, yet tons of research is being done at Tencent and Alibaba with state-of-the-art publications. DeepSeek is probably equivalent to GPT-3.5. I wonder how far ahead they are in terms of supply-chain management and process automation.

Given the datapoints re: chatbots, privacy and security, I find the divergence from global averages interesting due to the nature of GFW, data surveillance and harvesting. It's in contrast to what I would have expected especially given regulations around encryption and Chinese cryptography standards.

China has its own cryptography standards. It's interesting that nearly half of the respondents were working on AI in relation to privacy and security.
