Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??! I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me. https://x.com/tracewoodgrains/status/1826601506885320775

Most in the service industry have a mighty sense of professionalism given what they put up with, giving quality service to heavy and non tipper alike. That said, there is no question heavy tippers can get extra love even if its just their presence brightening the servers day and that reflecting outward, and there is a concept of "tip karma" where tipped workers tip very generously.
