“An opinion poll on Friday showed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party would form the largest single party in parliament if an election were held now, underlining a gradual recovery since the Oct. 7 attacks last year. The poll, published in the left-wing Ma'ariv daily, showed Likud winning 24 seats, against 32 at present, its highest score in the Ma'ariv poll since Oct. 7. It put the National Unity Party led by centrist former general Benny Gantz on 21.” He’s done it again; Netanyahu is the consummate political survivor. But he is observably not a good steward of Israel’s security or government. He has successfully done what most charismatic would-be autocrats do by manipulating the emotions of his audience. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/new-israeli-poll-shows-netanyahus-party-advancing-2024-09-13/

I never trust polls, but that is wild. Biggest security failure in generations, recklessly poking sleeping bears all around, turning a nation that had a lot of good faith going for it in many international corners into a pariah, has the ICC after him, has lost entire generation of young people worldwide potential support for the nation's project. His tenure has to rank highly in disastrous regimes. And none of this even considers the devastating human costs of his policies and actions.
