For Martin: why do you think we need to respect bots the same way we do humans? Do you actually think there's sentience there? What drives you to anthropomorphize the computer?

> why do you think we need to respect bots the same way we do humans? you didn't ask me, but I'll answer anyway π€£ it's bad for your own soul to be mean to objects, and the more person-like they *seem* the worse it is. humans are natural, reflexive anthropomorphizers (see: animism is the default religion) and ontological categories like "alive versus mechanical" don't reach our deepest emotional processing layers. even with "alive versus dead" it's dubious... see: ancestor worship, the other default religion

Interesting answer!! I asked in part because they were saying the people who were mean to the bots on the timeline were as bad as the people who donβt put away the shopping carts at the grocery store. I was so put off by that!! Not the same to me!! But I am compelled by your answer!
