Slow Productivity. 1. Do fewer things (at once). 2. Work at a natural pace (seasons). 3. Obsess over quality. The principles are the standouts but for maximum slow the context is: https://youtu.be/0HMjTxKRbaI?si=-f4CTqUrcw-dm8oz

'attention residue' is such an effectively gross term it makes me not want to multitask

You’re so right. My main struggle is when a task prompts some other bigger task, a part of which is needed for the current one. It’s such a struggle to know how much to move the attention to try kill a few birds at once doing both. I feel this then.

Trying to think of an example of your scenario. Would it be say, when you go to look for a file on your computer and while looking you realize the project folder needs better organized so you spend an hour organizing and also looking for the file? That feels more natural of a task switch to me, less jarring to the brain and more of a progression of actions. While something like reading a book and answering text messages every time they randomly ping through on your phone is a full on abrupt switch.

That’s the rough idea. For a more specific one: I’m currently organising a conference. So, say, I have a note to update video advert slots with their timings on the running order. I check it and see there’s an advert not received. I now need to chase that sponsor, but I know I need to ask them for more info about other things. Do I go and compile all those questions? Do I fire off a mini message to target this? Do I ignore this task completely for now and just add the timings? That kind of thing. And I feel versions of it happen a lot.

Seems like a prime situation for some self-study. (Watch this video on the ‘bug book’) For myself I would write down the tasks that were coming to mind in a notepad on my desk to return to after enjoying the moment of satisfaction from completing the first task. https://warpcast.com/mattyb/0xc58f2b3d
