i think online people have almost become too aware of the concept of "slop" to the point that it is detrimental to one's ability to enjoy things

basically anything that the general public enjoys is now construed as slop bc people have desire to signal as having individualistic and differentiated taste

but of course, many things are actually slop

crazy thing is they don’t even know about ghibli on tiktok but they have their own kinds of slop there

slop is contextual

tho i think tiktok would have similar levels of metacriticism as mjc says, it just is about slightly different forms of slop (like 3d brainrot animations)

I think this is more true of the terminally online Twitter set then most people using Instagram or TikTok.
