If you don’t pay close attention, all your preferences could end up being not what you actually enjoy but what is high status or what will not anger your tribe

In a weird way with the advent of social media this is happening at scale that is unprecedented 

The other weird thing is all of our preferences are starting to converge; go to Italy in the summer if you are in the US, go to Venice, get a house, get the same instagram ad furniture, wear lulu lemon

Unconsciously were being herded, dangerous if you are not present

If we look at our innate human need to connect, being part of the herd is how we’ve collectively learnt/been taught to achieve that - be like everyone else and you’ll be accepted. It’s always superficial and unfulfilling because while we actually crave deeper connection with ourselves and others, we’re not actually capable of bearing it
