Sooo many misconceptions about and aversions to therapy. How to improve this?

One of the first things I say when working with new clients is that it can take a while to find the right therapist and to keep an open mind about therapy in general. So many people have a bad experience with a therapist and can then generalize to the field

It’s also tricky because a “bad experience” can of course be at the fault of a therapist but it can also be from a client not being ready to change/ do the work. The best work is actually when there’s a “bad experience” and the client and therapist can work it out

And sometimes it’s just used as confirmation of existing beliefs. I think awareness of these nuances is what it comes down to - where is the resistance?
