when I used to teach 18-20 year olds about digital discourse and I’d ask them how they felt about privacy online, they always said that it “didn’t matter” because they have “nothing to hide.” privacy isn’t about secrecy, it’s about freedom. who benefits from you thinking privacy only matters for secrecy?

When people say that, I always ask for their email password then and to read all their texts, if they have nothing to hide.
