If you have the opportunity to live a life where you grow and cook your own food I highly recommend it.

The ratio of open to closed source may not matter as much as the ratio of code written in the future vs the past.

There are things people want to do, and there are often many different ways to do it, and many tools to help make it easier. So people want to do stuff, and things can help people do stuff. How do we connect the best ways to do stuff with the people who want to do it? Internet search? Sales ppl? Content marketing?

I heard this rule of thirds. One third of the time to feel like "wtf am I doing / I suck", one third of the time feeling neutral, and one third of the time being excited and feeling like crushing it. That's a good healthy balance. If it's not that then something is off. Seems about right.

Are you building something? Who are you building it for? What does it help them do?

With these large language models we can have software for any use case, and it can be extremely intuitive to use. Forms -> dialog. Anytime a user gets confused the software should be able to explain the UX to them like a person would. There's so much opportunity it's everywhere I look.

Truth never dies. Blockchain just helps us keep track of it more reliably.

That's the key to the insight. If you're focused on what people really want you can invent things people will buy and you will better understand your competition.

How can someone want something unimaginable? Wouldn't that be oxymoronic?

The products that enable the progress are secondary. Soon as the person stops wanting the progress the product is no longer valued. The product is a means, the progress is what matters. It's what people actually want.

A carpenter doesn't want a quarter inch drill bit, they want a quarter inch hole. The benefits/impact/outcomes are what people want. The way they want to be, the goals they want to accomplish, jobs to be done, tasks to complete. It's the progress and avoidance of friction (things they don't want to do).

People's wants are a separate concept from the things that can satisfy their wants.

I don't buy it. People don't want products or vision, people want to be a certain way or do certain things.
