There was no serious damage. Just broken windows, fallen trees, torn off roofs of small shelters and broken billboards. A huge window in our office was broken, and the floor was flooded. But we had transported all the equipment to another place in advance. But the worst thing is that after hurricanes the wind disappears. It is very humid in the Dominican Republic, but there is always wind, so you don’t feel the humidity. But after the hurricane, the air became thick and heavy - it became harder to breathe. There was no electricity, no water, no mobile phone service for two days. Almost all the roads were flooded, knee-deep in some places, so riding a scooter was out of the question. Two bars near my house were washed away - they were not solid stone structures, but simply wooden buildings. Overall, everything worked out, I think. But how would I know, my only experience with hurricanes! 😅

Despite the power outage, I had a photo shoot the second day after the hurricane. They set up a generator in the office so everyone could charge their cameras, phones, and even run a server. The shoot was awesome because there was no one on the beach - the waves washed away all the seaweed, leaving the beach super clean. The weather was perfect, like nothing happened.

Other photographers had their shoots cancelled, maybe because of clients, but my clients did not. The only hard part was getting home from the office. I had to walk from the office because I couldn't ride my scooter yet - there is only one road in Bavaro and part of it was flooded. The main thing is to avoid broken glass, which was everywhere in these muddy puddles. Luckily, I didn't step on any glass, but I did step on a sea urchin during the shoot. Dangerous job, hahaha!

These types of hurricanes happen regularly and this system has been around for centuries, possibly longer, so it's normal.

I think nature wants to tell us something. More and more similar stories..
